Redefining Bottom

Here I am, once again
The last one in the pack
Worked hard to make it far
And yet, I’m way off track

Graduating college seemed
Like a true mark of success
Giving me this coveted ticket
To exclusive access

To those who’d never talk to me
Without this damn degree
I need it to play this silly game
The first in my family

Leaping onto the hamster’s wheel
Running nowhere fast
Submitting countless resumes
Only to be passed

My pity party place of mine
Needs to stop right now
My cursing is of no ones use
A glimpse of what’s inside

Rather, I must remember
I’ve been here many times before
The bottom is the beginning
Needs to be redefined, that’s all

So, I’ll shift my glasses once again
Allow myself to dream
Of lofty goals, a house of our own
This can… no, it will be achieved

Nothing is beneath me
I’ll grab your coffee if I must
I’ll say yes to most everything
As long as it is legal, in my job I trust

Integrity, innovation, and hard work wins
I’m coachable, you’ll see
I’ve been competing in pageants for years
Your judgements don’t hurt, they set me free

For soon, I’ll understand
This system at its core
And move on up eventually
Redefining bottom once more
