The Circus

A place where imagination thrives
Thoughts of what life could be
Vastly different from his childhood
Foster children made Dad see

That helpfulness and wealthiness
Could go hand in hand
See how much we can balance
On this tight rope with his clan

Everything is going well
Churchgoers sing our praises
Seems our little show is thriving
Dad adds to the playlist

Adjusting his black top hat
A conductor at his core
We’ve become a traveling circus
Impossible to ignore

Desperate for engagement
Adding more characters in
With your eyes fully hypnotized
You’ll be focused on the spin

The system isn’t broken
Good families do exist
As long as kids are housed
This performance can persist

Social anxiety mounting
From being on display
I find comfort in the bathroom
Please, please take me away
