Sarah Lopez is the author of I Chose to Be Here: A Memoir of Loyalty, Lies, and Leaving the Con, the story of a woman raised by a con artist who spent years reinventing herself, only to discover that surviving her childhood was not the same as escaping it.
Long before telling her own story, Lopez built a career helping other people tell theirs. As a communications strategist, she has advised C-suite executives, school superintendents, and organizational leaders through high-stakes moments, shaping public messaging, ghostwriting communications, and preparing leaders for media appearances on local, state, and national news. Her work has earned ten awards from the California School Public Relations Association and recognition from the National School Public Relations Association.
A professional speaker for nearly two decades, Lopez has addressed thousands of people with a style rooted in candor, humor, and heart. Her journey to the stage began in the Miss America Organization, where she competed for eight years and earned more than $21,000 in scholarships toward her college education.
Her experience in front of an audience extends beyond speaking. For ten years, Lopez hosted a weekly beauty and style segment on Napa Valley television, and she spent eleven years entertaining crowds as a show announcer at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
After a career spent finding the right words for everyone else, Lopez is finally using them to tell the story she once thought she never would.
